I realise this is very late, as usual I've gone into blog hibernation while pregnant. I'm just so tired all the time and its been too hard. But I'm back and I have a couple of quilts to post too.
Songs I loved:
Gaitana (Ukraine) - Feels like a Mardi Gras anthem to me (though admittedly I'm not the target demo so that might be off):
Jedward (Ireland) - though last year's song was better IMO, this time they had a water feature:
Eleftheria Eleftheriou (Greece) - Greece had absolutely no chance of winning though, they totally couldn't afford to host it:
I didn't mind the la-la-love one either, France was very good (for France!) and even had some English lyrics! UK were boring as usual (sorry Englebert, but I'm here for the velcro pants and sequins, not for old blokes doing ballads). The German guy I swear was separated at birth from John Butler. The Italian girl, I thought she was going to be pants, some crappy love song, but she was actually channeling Amy Winehouse and was quite good too. The guy with the sequined blindfold was ave but hello, sequined blindfold! I was too busy being grossed out by Albania's dreadies to appreciate her tortured angsty ballad. Um... was there anyone else worth mentioning? Oh, Moldova! I loooooved the girls dresses, so cute!
The Russian Grannies - who were adorable, especially the littlest one:
The Turkish Pirates, its all about the boat they make with their costumes because he loves that sort of theatrics:
He was very put out that the grannies came second and not first.
I admittedly wasn't overly impressed with the winner, Sweden's Loren. Unimpressed to the point I decided to take a loo break during her performance. But its grown on me a TON and I love it now. Its all vocal-trace-like and catchy as hell.
I firmly believe she went to the Kate Bush School of Interpretive Dance though - compare this clip to the one above and tell me she didn't! I suspect Kate may well have lent Loren her stylist too.
So that's it for Eurovision 2012. In conclusion - a lack of velcro pants this year was disappointing again, but there were quite a few sequined and Europopish entries which meant I was happy enough. Less crappy ballads would be better but I'll take what I can get.
Roll on Sweden 2013!
